We now have two groups, with about thirty members in each. One group meets on the third Tuesday afternoon in the month. The other meets on the last Wednesday afternoon in the month. In December, the meeting is a joint one.

Group members are keen to share knowledge, experience and resources. Subjects covered so far include:- getting started; civil registration; the censuses; organising your research; wills and probate; parish registers; nonconformist records; newspapers and periodicals; electoral registers and burgess rolls; maps; trade directories; education and educational sources; local and social history; the poor laws; sources for births/baptisms, marriages, deaths/burials; and dating old photographs. Sometimes people bring along interesting artefacts, talk about a particular ancestor or a research story. Activities such as quizzes and brainstorming also prove helpful – and fun.

Extras on the programme have included successful computer workshop sessions at a local public library, a guided tour of the Hampshire Record Office in Winchester and guided tours of the Society of Genealogists' Library in London.
