There are two English Social History Groups, which meet at the leader's home on the first Wednesday in the month, the first from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and the second from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
We do not study history in the accepted sense of kings, queens, wars and dates but concentrate on the everyday lives of people from the richest to the poorest. We study their homes, clothing, food, travel etc.
We started off with the Vikings, Saxons and Normans and this year have been covering the Black Death, the Peasants' Revolt and have now reached the age of the Tudors. We hope to progress to the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.
In addition we are just starting to contribute our own memories of the 20th century to the Nation's Memorybank which is being set up on the web for the use of future generations.
